My journey as a data analyst began after I completed my post-graduate degree in biochemistry. I joined a Laboratory Information Management software company, where I created dashboards using Excel & Crystal Reports. I enjoyed working with data and finding insights from information.
Later, I moved to Barclays Africa, where I spent 5 years as a data analyst. I used various tools, such as Excel, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Qlik Sense, QlikView and Power BI, to create reports for business users. I understood the challenges and frustrations that colleagues faced when dealing with data or trying to optimize their work processes. I also learned that working with data can be incredibly frustrating! Learning to use the right software in the right way goes a long way to reducing frustration.
During my time at the bank, I also discovered my passion for teaching. I started to train my colleagues on how to use different data analysis tools. I realized that I could combine my two passions: data and teaching. This is how I came to found Data Skills - a company dedicated to helping people work efficiently and manage their data effectively.
